The following is information provided by the Campus Accessibility Center.
Campus Accessibility Center (CAC)
Guided by the civil rights regulations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, As Amended (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Campus Accessibility Center is committed to making reasonable accommodations for individuals with documented disabilities to ensure equal access to programs and facilities. The mission of CAC is to provide opportunities for students to realize and use the strengths that come from their challenges while learning to advocate for their needs with confidence and clarity. CAC seeks to create an environment where the university community enjoys inclusivity and barrier-free access.
Student Self-Identification and Documentation of Disabilities
SNHU makes no inquiry about an applicant’s disability; however, open discussions about support services are beneficial in making decisions about how the institution can best meet a student’s needs. It is only through self-disclosure to the Campus Accessibility Center that informed decisions can be made by the student about the suitability of SNHU in the student’s pursuit of a college education.
CAC recognizes that disclosing a disability is a personal choice that every applicant may exercise. Once they have been accepted to SNHU, CAC encourages students with hidden disabilities, such as learning disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, chronic medical conditions, or physical or sensory disabilities to self-disclose such conditions and provide us with all necessary paperwork.
This information is also useful after the student is enrolled, as it helps the Campus Accessibility Center, faculty, and staff to provide the needed services and refer students for appropriate services. Only after the student provides the appropriate documentation can their eligibility for accommodations be determined. Guidelines for this documentation are available from the Campus Accessibility Center.
